Current Teaching
I teach a number of modules on various programs offered by the Department of Economics in University College Cork.
BA(Economics)
I teach on both second and third year of the BA(Economics) program in UCC. In second year I teach EC2103 Introduction to Economic Interpretation. This module introduces students to the use of statistics in economics, the analysis of time series data, the performance of hypothesis testing and how various economic indicators are constructed. As part of this module students also undertake practical classes in Microsoft Excel. I also provide video and webex tutorials for students. In third year I teach half of the module EC3115 Innovation, Competitiveness and Economic Growth. The components I teach on this module are growth theories such as neoclassical and endogenous growth models, national competitiveness and Irish economic performance. Case studies based on the Global Competitiveness Report are used to show a practical application of the theory covered in the module.
MA(Economics)
On the MA(Economics) I teach Econometrics for Research. This is a practical module which introduces students to applied econometrics. The software package Stata is utilized throughout the module to ensure that students are not only provided with a theoretical rigorous econometrics module, but also can practically apply what has been learnt to real world data. Various video tutorials are provided for students and a series of webex tutorial are also provided.
MBS(Business Information Systems)
I teach half of the module IS6007 Innovation and Software on the MBS(Business Information Systems). The component of the module which I teach provides students with a practical guide to business strategy as well as an understanding of innovation and government innovation policies. Case studies are utilized through this module to give students a practical understanding of the topics being covered.
